Video: 13 Books for Gardnerian Seekers

In this video, I talk through the recommended reading list I give to seekers interested in Gardnerian Wicca. Different groups will have different recommendations, and some groups won’t have any suggested reading at all, but these are the texts that I, personally, think are the most helpful and informative for someone seeking traditional Wicca. The thirteen books on my list are:

  • “Drawing Down the Moon” by Margot Adler
  • “Rites and Symbols of Initiation” by Mircea Eliade
  • “The Witches’ God” and “The Witches’ Goddess” by Janet and Stewart Farrar
  • “The Sea Priestess” by Dion Fortune
  • “In Search of the New Forest Coven” by Philip Heselton
  • “The Triumph of the Moon” by Ronald Hutton
  • “The Elements of Ritual” and “Magical Power for Beginners” by Deborah Lipp
  • “Traditional Wicca: A Seeker’s Guide” by Thorn Mooney
  • “Trance-Portation” by Diana L. Paxson
  • “The Spiral Dance” (20th anniversary edition) by Starhawk
  • “Witchcraft for Tomorrow” by Doreen Valiente

  1. Good list, but I would add my books on Wicca and witchcraft to the list, on the grounds that they address seekers’ questions about gender and sexuality in Gardnerian Wicca.
